The Celts in Inđija
On the territory of the municipality of Inđija, the remains of Celtic life have been found at more than 60 sites. The most prominent are those in the area of Krčedin and Slankamen.
There are numerous localities along the Danube in Srem: Zemun, Stari and Novi Banovci, Belegiš, Slankamen, Krčedin, Karlovci, Banoštor, Susek; Eastern Slavonia: Ilok, Stari Vukovar, Vučedol, Donja Bebrina, Dalj, several localities in Osijek; along the Sava in lower Srem: Jakovo, Obrež, Hrtkovci, Dobrinci, Mitrovica, Batrovci; in Serbia: Obrenovac, in Belgrade: Gornji grad, Karaburma, Rospi-Ćuprija, Guberevac and Ada Ciganlija, Vinča, Ritopek, Brestovik, Grocka, Orešac near Smederevo, Ostrovo near Požarevac, Veliko Gradište, Usje near Golubac, Jabukovac. If we accept that the locality of Židovar is a Celtic settlement, it would mean that Scordisci were also on the left bank of the Danube. South of the Danube region, the largest concentration of Celtic names is along the Morava valley near Niš, in the vicinity of Pirot, Bela Palanka, Leskovac and Aleksinac.
